RULES for the 2008 1/1 Create a Following contest
Europe's street inspired artists are invited to submit work to an online portfolio and to join the 1/1 Collective. Among all the submission received (hereafter Work or Submission), 11 artists will be selected by the Associates and the Curator (11 established artist engaged by the 1/1 Collective) to create a piece of art in response to a sport-inspired brief. Their Work will exhibited at a high-profile public Art Show, where the Curator will announce one winner to collaborate with him/her on a 1/1 artwork and on the design of a Nike Dunk limited edition. The whole program is amplified through digital, a book and movie.
This Contest is partially or wholly sponsored, produced, directed, organised, conducted, coached or paid for by Nike European Operations Netherlands B.V., Hilversum ("NIKE"). These terms and conditions of participation (Terms and Conditions) are applicable to the Competition.
Who can take part in the Create a Following contest?
Only person aged 16 years or above at the date NIKE receives the online submissions are allowed to participate to the Contest.
Persons with residency in one of the following EMEA countries are allowed to win a prize:

Employees and family members of NIKE and any of its subsidiaries are not allowed to participate to the Contest.
Persons with residency outside of the above listed EMEA countries and employees and family members of NIKE and any of its subsidiaries are welcome to join the 1/1 collective by submitting their work but will not be eligible to win the hereafter mentioned prize. However, the Associates and the Curator may decide at their sole discretion to designate or not an International Finalist to reward an outstanding work submitted by somebody with residency outside of the above listed EMEA. In case of designation of such International Finalist , the selected Participant will receive the same prize as the other Finalists.
How to take part and be one of the Finalists
No purchase is necessary to take part in the 2008 Create a Following contest.
To take part, you must either:
- Create a work expressing "the art of football". This work shall preferably be "street-inspired art" i.e. "Non Museal art": Anything you will not see in a traditional gallery, museum on TV or mainstream cinema.
- Submit your work or a representation of your work (image/video or sound) to the contest by
- clicking the "enter Create a Following contest" button
- add up to 5 "tags" describing your work (Tag may be selected in the non-limitative list on the website or chosen by the Participant in respect with the present Terms and Conditions)
- complete the electronic entry form
- accept these Terms and Conditions Rules by ticking the box
- submit the electronic entry form by clicking the "submit" button.
You are entitled to submit a maximum of 5 Works. For each submission you will have to go through the above submission process. All the Works submitted will be shown in your personal online portfolio.
If a Work is created by more than one person or includes more than one person's Work or creative input, voice, music etc., each of those additional persons must complete the Online Registration Form for the submission to be considered. NIKE may refuse a submission should it determine that additional persons when required have not completed the Registration Form.
Voting
Everybody can vote for the Works submitted .You simply rate the Works shown on the www.nike1-1.com website. Vote will not be decisive for the designation of the Finalists. This will be decided at the sole discretion of the Associates and the Curator, but the vote may inspire them. You can vote as many times as you like, but you cannot vote more than once for the same design.
Winner; Finalists
The Associates and the Curator will select 11 winning Works. The participant who submitted these Works will be invited to exhibit their Work at a high-profile public Art event in Basel, Switzerland.
Among these 11 Finalists, 1 winner (hereafter the Winner) will be announced during the art event.
The Associates and the Curator will designate the winner and the Finalists are their sole discretion.
The Associates and the Curator may decide at their sole discretion to reduce the number of Finalist in case of there was not enough quality Works submitted to the contest.
Prizes
All Finalists win the following prize:
- Exhibition of the winning Work at a the high-profile public Art event on June 2008 in Basel, Switzerland (exact date and location of the art event to be confirmed); plus
- publication and appearance in the 1/1 Dunk, book and movie both released on August 2008; plus
- an exclusive invitations for two people to the Art event launch party in Basel; plus
- 2 round-trip tickets from country of residence to Basel (exact date to be confirmed); plus
- 1 double or twin bed room for 1 night in Hotel in Basel (Name of the Hotel to be confirmed), plus
- taxi service from Basel airport to Hotel and from Hotel to the place of the Art event
There is no cash or voucher alternative to any of the prizes. Finalists may be required to complete a Finalist's registration form.
All Finalists will be notified in writing by email on or before [date]. Finalists need to confirm acceptance of the prize by [Date]. If no timely acceptance has been received by Nike, Finalist loses its right to claim the prize; the prize will be cancelled. Prizes are non transferable.
NIKE (and its affiliates) reserves the right not accept admission to the party if Finalists do not respect common accepted rules of being dressed properly or general misbehavior.
The Winner will:
- collaborate with the Curator to design a limited edition of a Nike Dunk shoe; plus
- receive 2 pairs of the co-designed shoe at the size he/she requests.
Please note that all intellectual property rights on the designed shoe will be owned by Nike.
Competition schedule; organisation

This contest is organized by Nike European Operations Netherlands B.V., Colosseum 1, Hilversum, the Netherlands ("NIKE").
This contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. NIKE reserves the right to exclude entrants when they do not meet the requirements set forth in these Competition Rules for the full duration of the contest.
Nike disclaimers
NIKE is not responsible for undeliverable or unreadable e-mails submitted or for any computer malfunction in connection with any entry, or keeping administration of answers to the contest questions.
NIKE may withdraw, edit or delete any work that in the sole judgment of NIKE violates these Terms and Conditions, or which may be offensive, illegal or violates the rights of any person, or in any way brings the competition, NIKE and/or its brand name into disrepute.
Entrant's declaration
Entrant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions when entering the Create a Following contest by submitting the electronic entry form above mentioned.
Entrants are solely responsible for the Work(s), vote(s) or tag line(s) (hereafter: "Submissions") they submit to Nike. Entrants understand that the Submissions may become visible on the NIKE websites. Entrants represent and warrant that: (i) they are free to enter into and are fully authorized to enter into this contest: (ii) the Submissions they have contributed are original; (iii) they have obtained the consent of any party whose Work is included in the Submissions so that Nike may use the Submissions as permitted under these terms and Conditions; (iv) the posting of the Submissions on the www.nike1-1.com website or any other Nike website, or the use by Nike of the Submissions as permitted under these Terms and Conditions, shall not violate the privacy rights, copyrights, contract rights or any other rights of any person. Entrant agrees to indemnify NIKE in respect of all royalties, fees, and any other monies owing to any person by reason of the Submissions being posted on any Nike website or by reason of Nike using the Submissions as permitted under these Terms and conditions.
All intellectual rights on the Works shall remain the property of the artists; however by submitting his Work to the contest the entrant hereby agrees to grant to Nike an unlimited, exclusive, royalty free and perpetual license to use the Work, vote or marketing tag line in the widest sense of the word, including but not limited to editing, modifying, publicly performing, publicly displaying, broadcasting, digitization, reproduction, sublicensing and distribution, anywhere in the world.
Entrants agree that they shall have no right of approval and no claim (including, without limitation, claims based on copyright, design right or other intellectual property rights) arising out of any use by Nike of the Work, vote or marketing tag line. Nike shall have no obligation to use any of the rights that the entrant grants in this clause.
Entrant acknowledges that Nike does not provide for any insurance, whether medical, travel, cancellation or liability, or other, for any illness, accident, injury, loss or damage that may arise in connection with the participation in this contest or the execution of the prize.
Entrant acknowledges that Nike strongly advises any prize winner of under 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian on and during the trip to Basel.
Entrant acknowledges that should any taxes be applicable to the prize, these shall be the responsibility of Entrant.
Use of personal information
Any personal details of entrants contained on the electronic entry form submitted to NIKE will be kept for the duration of the contest and for the purpose of the contest only, unless explicitly agreed otherwise by the entrant.
If you have opted in to receive information about Nike Sportwear, NIKE may use the personal data obtained from the entry form to inform the participant of new products and future Nike Sportwear related events and promotions. The participants' personal data will be processed in accordance with all national and international applicable data protection laws.
